MOSCOW, KREMLIN (VIRTUAL OUTDOOR TOUR): TSAR CANNON

Moscow, Kremlin (Virtual Outdoor Tour): Tsar Cannon

At the southeast corner of the Church of the Twelve Apostles is the bronze Tsar Cannon (1586). Weighing in at forty tonnes, this astonishing weapon is more than sixteen feet long with a calibre of nearly three feet. Like the "Tsar Bell," it has never been heard, although it was intended to defend the Savior Gate of the Kremlin. It is embellished with a wealth of decorative details. In this photo, the Ivan the Great Bell Tower is visible to the left.
