This miniature illustration is modelled after a historical painting appearing on the cover of Ahmad al-Qalyoûbî's Histoires étranges et merveilleuses, which I read in a French translation by René R. Khawam published in 1977 by Phébus at Vichy. It seems to resonate with the title character of my literary fable of the same name. It was digitally revised in August of 2003.
