MOSCOW, RED SQUARE: GUM
This late nineteenth-century building houses the largest department store in Russia. Housed beneath an immense ceiling of glass and metal, the various shops are arranged in arcaded tiers connected by footbridges. Fountains, clocks, and art nouveau detailing lend a festive atmosphere.
