This image is a painting based on two superimposed, digitally transformed photographs: an image of one of the two standing Buddhas destroyed in Bamiyan, Afghanistan, by Muslim extremists; and an image of the twin towers of the World Trade Center ravaged by flames--both structures demolished by terrorist attacks on 11 September 2001. Those whose browsers are configured to play MIDI files automatically will simultaneously hear "Thanatopsis," a work for string orchestra I composed and published in 1990. This page is intended as a non-sectarian meditative memorial to the victims of terrorism throughout the world.
